Title : Palace of the Beast
Filename : Palace.wad
Author : Thrain Shadbolt
Email Address : Care of Chris Hardy (chrish@kcbbs.gen.nz)
Misc. Author Info : '...All shall end in a sea of fire & blood...'

Description : It's been two long months since you sent the evil
Spider Demon back to Hell where it belonged. Meanwhile the UAC is gearing
up for the battle to reclaim Earth. Of course all you want to do is get some
much needed R&R...
It's been a long night with too much wine and women in the bars of the
refurbished Mars Base, so as you stagger into your barracks you fall into deep
sleep almost immediately, and dream...
You're standing in a glowing red corridor, in the distance you hear an all
too familiar growl. It couldn't be - could it? It's just a dream, right? Seems
awfully real. You pinch yourself; yep, it's real all right! Looks like Hell
isn't ready to let you go just yet... And it's not just any part of Hell you
find yourself in; a hideous scrawl of blood upon the wall spells out the words
'Palace of the Beast'!
With realisation comes anger; how dare the demons interrupt your hard earned
rest! Whoever's responsible you're gonna make them pay! You grasp your shotgun
and head into the gloom...

Palace of the Beast is a large Wad that I've been working on since what seems
like the beginning of time (actually since I first got a copy of DEU) and I've
finally managed to finish it off, hopefully in time to beat the release of
DOOM II, after which probably no one will want to play DOOM I wads anymore...
It contains alot of different 'themed' areas and at least one fairly unique
puzzle, although it's more of a 'roam around and fight things' kind of a level
with interesting architectural features.
This is the second Wad I've released, the first was 'Rollercoaster of Doom'
(ROLLDOOM.ZIP), a comedy level I created while working on this.

Additional Credits to : Chris for the tools, Lars & Thomas for playtesting,
the Boys (you know who you are) for deathmatching!

(Editors Notes - Why not I'm posting it!!!! ;-)

Thrain is a professional animator for one of NZ's biggest computer animation
company. All of the graphics that have been changed have been drawn by him
using Fractal Design paint. (Check out the Sky and the Title page)
Anyway, if you use any of these graphics, etc please credit him!!!

Thanks
Chris Hardy (chrish@kcbbs.gen.nz)

* Play Information *

Episode and Level # : E1M5 (Use -warp 1 5 or while playing type IDCLEV15,
I chose this level 'cos it's got the best music)
Single Player : Yes
Cooperative 2-4 Player : Yes
Deathmatch 2-4 Player : Yes (A little too big though!)
Difficulty Settings : Yes
New Sounds : No
New Graphics : Yes (new intro pic and sky)
Demos Replaced : 1 (I've also included a larger demo, PALACE.LMP
which is a fun deathmatch demo by me and some of
my friends; I would've made this a demo as well but
DOOM doesn't let you change player views with F12
while on the title screen, oh well. Anyway, the
demo is from DOOM v1.666 so if you don't have it
you'll either have to be real quick on the button
  or use -warp 1 5).

* Construction *
