They were going to enter the ancient tomb of Altheus - a newly discovered tomb - looking for treasure. Altheus was an evil ruler of an ancient kingdom, and also the leader of a sinister death cult. His tomb is reportedly cursed, and the entrance is guarded by the authorities. You decide to find out what happened to your friends. Good luck... you´ll need it. ==================================================================== * Construction * Base : New level made from scratch. Editor used : WinDEU 5.24 Build time: April - June 1997 Known Bugs : No known bugs in the level. ==================================================================== * Construction Notes * You know when you´ve played too much Doom when you open a book on ancient Egypt, and only one look at an architectural plan of Pharaoh Sethos I:s tomb is enough to inspire you to a Doom level! The level layout follows the plan of Sethos I:s tomb, with some certain additions and changes - for instance, the Egyptians didn´t put teleporters or mechanical doors in their royal tombs :) Also, sloping floors and rounded ceilings can´t be done in Doom. However, no new textures were added. "Altheus" is a made-up name. This level is a bit tougher to beat than my previously released Doom II wads. Recommended reading: "The complete Valley of the Kings" by Nicholas Reeves and Richard H Wilkinson (Thames & Hudson, 1996) Excellent book. ==================================================================== * Copyright / Permissions * Authors may use this level as a base to build additional levels only if someone wants to put some Egyptian textures into it.
