You may distribute this file in any electronic format (BBS, Diskette, CD, etc) as long as you include this file intact. ================================================================ * Blah de blah de blah * Deleted Scene (Hexen Edition) Yesterday I suddenly had the urge to play around with designing for Hexen. I don't know why, it kinda came out of nowhere. This is odd because I've never been a Hexen fan. I played it all the way through when it was first released (whenever that was) and I haven't looked at it since. Of course, the upshot of this is that I am completely unfamiliar with the weapons and the monsters. I figured the best thing to do was build something small so that I could start to familiarise myself with these various elements. A few seconds later (it was one of those days) I decided it would be better to convert one of my smaller doom2 maps to hexen, saving me building time, so that I could get straight to the experimentation with the monsters/weapons/pickup items. 'Deleted Scene' seemed the obvious choice. It was a small map and it's textures and architecture seemed more appropriate to hexen than many of my other doom designs. ...So this is the result. Is it balanced? Probably not, but it's certainly playable. I've decided to release it on the off chance that wad-starved hexen fans with 10 minutes to waste may enjoy it. I really enjoyed putting this together, although a better term would be 'throwing this together'. The whole process of texture conversion and item/monster placement only took up an evening, which is a refreshing change to something like Decade (which was a 6 month marathon to build). I must admit that I'm now sorely tempted to convert Null Space into a Hexen map. But if I do I'll spend a lot more time on it than I spent on this. The original Deleted Scene used a number of hexen texture patches. Rather than search around in the hexen iwad for the appropriate patches and making textures from them to match the textures names in my original level, I decided to just dump them out of my original level, convert them to the hexen palette and then load them into the hexen version of my level. I mainly did this because the end result was a lighter patch than the hexen original. A lot of the original hexen textures seem quite dark to me and I was having to drastically increase the lighting levels so they were visable (not good, it messes up the atmosphere). ...well thats another typo-ridden and garbled text file from me.
