UNTOLD HIDDEN STORY

WANRING: I recommend you to read it only after playing the game, cause it has heavy SPOILERS! It may ruin your game experience if you want to be taken and be surprised by the in-game story. 
But if you don't give a damn, feel free to read it if you want.



THE DARK REALM OF THE DEAD

A Powerful Evil entity known as the "Darkness" exists since the begining of time.
He was once one of the several powerful demons (fallen angels) serving the Devil in Hell. But this one turned against his master and was expeled from Hell. Then the Darkness created his own Realm of the Dead. People die already destined to go to Heaven or Hell, so the Darkness had to have an eye out there to choose and capture dead spirits to his own realm.


THE LEGEND OF THE CASTLE OF ETERNITY

Eons ago, there were actually such a peacefull Kingdom where the kinded human King of Eternity: Avatar, ruled in the "Castle of Eternity". In a war, the castle was destroyed and after the fall of his kingdom, King Avatar has gone mad. The kindom priests advised him to gently accept the end of his reign and to dedicate the rest of his old days to God, since he was getting old. Instead, Avatar turned against everyone: his familiy, the priests, his people, even to God. As evil invaded his heart, his entryway to heaven was completely forbidden. He Dies with the agonizing evil echo of Revenge against the ones who destroyed his Kingdom.

Knowing that the Devil have awaited the Avatar's soul for so long in Hell, the Darkness made all his effords to win his spirit! And so Avatar, like many others, was another Darkness conquest, being imprisioned in the Dark Dead Realm. His heart was full of hatred and dominated by an evil so big that ended up grabbing the Darkness attention.


THE WAR FOR POWER INSIDE THE DEAD REAM

The Darkness offers Avatar a deal:
"Let me make you immortal. With your Evil Hatred, you will reign this Realm with me, turning it more powerfull, accept this and and I will build your Castle of Eternity here in our Realm and I'll let you be the king you were. Help me to Conquest Hell with our power together and I'll bring you the souls of those who defeated you in the living world for you to revenge. Lastly, I'll give you half of my dead ones for you to rule, and those will be your people".

Accepted!
The Realm of the Dead was Ruled by the Darkness and Avatar, both united and equally evil! But like all the superior entities, in Heaven and Hell, the Dead Realm was no exception. Instead of growing, the realm got divided and a war between The Darkness and Avatar started.
The Darkenss wins and as an act of humiliation he imprisoned Avatar in his own Castle, now in comand of the Darkness Keepers.


THE REALM'S SAFEGUARD FROM DESTRUCTION

Avatar has passed the rest of his immortal days imprison in his Castle Dungeon, studying the creation of the realm. Making secret allies with some Keepers, he managed to create a way to destroy the realm.
One day he asked to see the Darkness. Accompanied by Keepers, Avatar was brought to the Darkness throne in the Dark Caves.
Avatar spoke: 
"Here! I present to you the work of my last years of prison, it's a gift to my master." The Darkness take it... "I advise you not to drink it, it's the Water of Life, that destroys the death." The Darkness empties the bottle to the fire... "I have several secret Keeper allies in the Castle prisons, one of them has a bottle of this Water, I ordered him to drink it if my wish doesn't materialize within 1 hour!, If he drinks it, This realm will disapear and all of us, mortal and immortal will be brought to the living world, the dead ones will live again, and we'll be expose to God, loosing all of our power! I don't want to rule the realm with you, I just want my power back in my castle and my dead ones back to rule them. So? What do you choose!?"

The Darkness killed all of his trusted Keepers in the Castle, along with the betrayers (except the one who was hidding with the botlle of Water). Then a deal of peace was made: The Darkness will freely rule without threats, the entire Realm, except the little portion of it that contains the Castle of Eternity wich will be ruled by Avatar and has no influence in the Realm.
The Last words ever to one each other:
- Darkness: "I will vanish you from here if you try to interfere with my realm affairs Avatar!"
- Avatar: "And I'll drink the Water of Life if you try to vanish me! But don't worry, I'll be quietly in my Kingdom, you'll not even notice me. The Water of Life will be guarded in my throne room as a safeguard, and believe me, we don't wanna use it. That's why there will be no problems between us!"

And so it lasted until the End...



THE END OF THE DARK REALM

Thousands of years later, King Avatar's power has grown so much that ended interfearing the dreams and nightmares of the living world. The Drakness loses strengh when trying to aproach the Castle, now he can NOT do anything against Avatar.

The Realm got so vunerable that the Devil decided to invade it with demons from Hell. But what he didn't expected was that by invading the Dark Realm, the Devil was making it more strong: The Darkness, as an Important ruler Demon (Fallen Angel), he was able to control the hordes of demons sent by the Devil, making them serving and empowering the Realm. 

Many UAC Marines ended in the realm, they were chosen, for the Darkness was interested in their technology.

On Earth, a group of people who dreamed about the Legendary Castle started to bring the Mith back to Life by creating realistic pictures of the Castle inspired by their dreams. But among them were greedy ones who also created false numbers, files and wierd transmisions that got the attention of the HQ Command Marines. This was what brought a very skilled and survival marine in search of the Caslte and eventually falling to his death in an excavation site. Another one chosen by the Darkness.

In the Realm, the Marine meets Leon: the smartest marine who is always tricking the Darkness. Leon was a good man who has worked so hard to bring all back to life.

When the Darkness saw the skills of these two Marines, he feared that they got too close to the castle and find out about the Water of Life, wich actually happened! The marines were already in route to there and the Darkness was loosing power nearby. He knew that when they enter the castle Halls he could not control them. So knowing the realm was doomed, he decided to do his last wish: to kill Leon and prevent him to return to the living. With Leon in the castle, the Darkness doesn't have enough strengh to kill him! Then he tricks him by telling him a lie: only one can drink the water and save himself. Leon sadly hire thugs to prevent any marine to reach the castle and chooses himself to be saved by the Water.
When the Other Marine arrives to the castle Halls, the Darkness makes his last checkmate: he puts the marines against each other, fighting for the Water. The Darkness knew that unlike the skilled gun Marine, Leon was a bad fighter, he knew Leon were about to be killed. And so in happened!


The Avatar is defeated,
the Water of Life is drinked,
The Dead Realm is Destroyed,
All Mortal and Immortal is released (except the dead (I mean: dead for good!)),
The Darkness is defeated in the Living World (Weak & exposed to the Light of God),

The victorious Marine Dies moments later in a truck accident. Whas it a Darkness Curse? Neither I know.

Description: 
This is a Story-Based wad with a plot full of surprises and suspence where nothing is what it looks. With a prologue and epilogue, story NPCs and objectives. Most of the maps were created in Zdoom format, but some in hexen format, including only one type of scripting: text, the only mean that the charaters comunicate once this don't have scripted cutscenes.
All Maps were designed to play with pistol start!


ADDITIONAL INFO: 
This Project was made and finished back in 2012 by me only. It somehow felt into oblivion on my PC until now. 
I started this February of 2019 to make bug fixes, improving and updating all maps, creating new places and enemies and I even added a new map. Despite being done in 2012, the project is more complete now and ready to go!
I tested it on GZDoom g1.9.1. I don't recommed playing it with ZDoom, it may play but some textures will bug!
There may also be some English errors in the hud messages, but nothing so ununderstandable.
Sometimes you may get stuck in an elevator at the start of map 6, if that happens, restart the map until it works, (with me only happened 2 times.)

If you having troubles on getting to the secret level (15), read the endline in the EDKness Hidden Story.txt


Jumping and Crouching Hint:

Only some maps are meant to jump and crouch. How do you know if you can jump or crouch knowing you're not doing cheating? Simple, on "gameplay options" menu, "allow jump" and "allow crouch" MUST be "default", the mapinfo including in the .pk3 file have instructions for what map is allowed to do that. So in a map if you try to jump and the player stucks, it means that is forbidden.


Scripted text screen Hint:

Most of the text don't long enough time on the screen to be reading. If you care so mutch about the story that this is a problem for you, you can pause at each text or you can review it in the console.
