============================================================================== Title : The Chaos Fountain Filename : CHAOSFTN.WAD Author : Brian Waak Email Addresses : <email removed> (read often) <email removed> (read less often) Description : After the portal to the Chaos Realm was opened, the evil forces of Korax began pouring through, spreading terror, pain, and destruction throughout the world. Those who weren't killed outright were turned into monsters for the evil army, or just for some power's amusement. They have built a temple around the portal, which continues to spew out new horrors every day. This fountain of Chaos is the heart of the evil power on this world- and also its greatest weakness! Now the few survivors who have not joined with Korax have discovered that many of the powerful objects used by the evil army are erupting from the same Chaos Fountain that the monsters themselves are. You are the last survivor(s) of the group sent to steal some of these items for humanity. It is hoped that, if you survive in the heart of Chaos long enough, you will be powerful enough to wipe the plague of darkness from the world, maybe even track Korax back to his lair and vanquish him. Good luck - because luck is all you have. Misc. Info : ME: I've been making levels for myself and friends for a while, for Doom 2, Heretic, and now Hexen, but this is the first one I've actually decided to upload. Mainly because I'm constantly changing the others, trying to improve them- an artist's work is never done! (but, I'm not an artist- I'm a Comp Sci major!) :) Oh well. Anyway, if you like this one, and I get some email from people to that effect, I'll probably upload some of them. If you don't like it, oh well. THE LEVEL: All the action takes place in one room, the one with the Chaos Fountain in it. Basically I was experimenting with scripts (and especially the Thing_Projectile command) and decided to see if I could make it spew stuff other than trap projectiles. I could and did. :) Also, after a while in single player or coop, the fountain stops, and there's a puzzle. Be careful with this- if you pick a wrong one, you'll almost certainly die, and die badly! I _do_ give you a hint, but you have to watch carefully, especially in multiplayer. If you pick the right one, the fountain turns into a normal exit switch, so you can go on to levels 2 & up with all your fun goodies. :) And, with regard to the scripts, if you want to see them, email me- I'll be happy to send off a copy, though it's not commented right now and probably won't be anytime soon. :) Additional Credits : ID and Raven software for Doom, Heretic, and Hexen, Ben Morris (<email removed>) for HCK, Ben Morris & Ben Gokey for the Official Hexen Technical Specs, and Ted Briggs and Andrew Goodsell for helping me test it multiplayer. :) Maybe we'll get a stable connection someday, guys. ============================================================================== * Play Information * Game : Hexen Level Number : map01 Single Player : Yes Coop : Yes, though not tested as much- can't get a stable network going! Deathmatch : Yes Difficulty Settings : Not implemented- pretty obvious why, when you try it New Sounds : No New Graphics : No New Music : No (with Hexen CD, do we need it? :) Demos Replaced : None yet- maybe later. Not like _I_ can't get through it. :) * Construction Information * Base : New level from scratch Build Time : a couple of hours for the level, about 4 days to get all the scripts written & working. Editors used : HCK 3.0beta (I'll register as soon as I have some extra cash- great program!), various text editors for the scripts (you knew that, didn't you) :), and Raven's ACC compiler for the script objects. Known Bugs : Sometimes the fountain doesn't raise/lower all the way before erupting again, and it'll occasionally just plain stop moving! That last one is _really_ annoying because it hangs the puzzle script, preventing exit. Doesn't happen much, though. Also, the PolyObjects sometimes don't display right, especially when retracted into the walls, but this is a minor bug. I'm working on it! :) * Copyright / Permissions * Authors MAY use this level as a base to build additional levels, though it'd be nice if you asked me first, and you should include me in your credits. Of course, it's not like I can stop you if you REALLY want to. :) You MAY distribute this WAD, provided you include this file, with no modifications. You may distribute this file in any electronic format (Disk, Net, CD, BBS, etc. - any I left out? :)) as long as you include this file intact. * Where to get this WAD * FTP sites : ftp.cdrom.com, and wherever you got it from if not there. BBS numbers : Any it gets uploaded onto. Other : Your friends, maybe? :)
