* Weapon Groups *

Close Quarters (Slot 1)
Weapons of varying power that are suitable for use at close-quarters
against Zombiemen, Demons, Imps, Dogs and the weaker Hell Nobility.

Small Arms (Slot 2)
Medium power weapons, suitable for use at medium distances and against all
of the lower demon classes plus, as a last resort, Hell Nobles and Viles.

Shotgun Variants (Slot 3)
Higher power weapons, suitable for use at close range against the bigger of
the minor monsters, the Hell Noblity and the lower types of the big bosses.

Rapid Fire (Slot 4)
Full-auto weapons such as machine guns and gatling cannons; these vary in
power but all fire several shells per second; useful for room-clearance.

Light Artillery (Slot 5)
High power weapons, suitable for use at greater distances and against all
but the most very dangerous types of monsters, though these too at a pinch.

Miscellaneous Armanents (Slot 6)
Various weapons left over from the source material; these do not really fit
anywhere else, but are considered too cool or useful to discard altogether.

Mass Destruction (Slot 7)
Ultra-high power energy weapons, suitable for use at long distances against
huge hordes of monsters or against the greatest and most powerful monsters.

Projectile Implements (Slot 8)
Weapons such as grenades, shurikens, caltrops; things that are thrown which
then pierce, cut or explode.

Black Magic (Slot 9)
The most eclectic weapons of all! These were not made by humans or else are
weird fusions of technology and magic, often stolen from demons themselves!
Your soul is at risk if you use these artifacts of hell, but sometimes they
can save you from paying it - or the other place - a premature visit!

Black Humour (Slot 0)
The most bizarre weapons of all! Some are just plain silly and others have a
serious use; most were originally going to be easter eggs in the Butchery;
kill demons with them if you like, but remember also to have a good laugh:)

    A double-handed martial-arts style punch that special-forces personnel
    are trained to use as a last resort when no other weapon is available.

    A pickup item is provided in the form of a pair of gloves lying on the
    ground, so that they can be subclassed as "the magic gloves of 1337
    m4r714l 4r7s sk1llz", "the fists of fury" or similar idea. Cowabunga!

    These fists are also useful for WADs that need to strip the player of
    weapons and ammo for some special effect, possibly restoring them also;
    however, they are intended primarily as a complete replacement for the
    DOOM fist and by default given via the included ENTER/RESPAWN scripts.

    The original TH-E16 made by Kray Bros (no relation) between 2035 and
    2050 had an unfortunate model number as well as manufacturer: E16 is the
    postcode for much of the London borough of Tower Hamlets, notorious for
    the regular gangland shoot-outs and drive-bys. Because the authorities
    objected to the bad guys having better guns than their own, they
    commissioned Black Cat's engineers to design an official sawn-off for
    use by MI6 agents operating in occupied territories. Trouble is, like
    any good sawn-off, it soon became a favourite trenchcoat accessory of
    London's gangsters and similar scum!

    The range of 520 units is based on the Doom Metrics ratio of 1 foot to
    16 doom units and the typical range for a S.O.S.G. of around 10 yards.

    The 7242 is Black Cat's answer to the trend for automatic shotguns; it
    seems that years ago, a shadowy company called Earth Defensive Factory
    (or something like that) used to make some sort of chaingun; indeed, as
    Black Cat's then-MD once said to the Earl of London about a prototype,
    "that's one ripping good chaingun; it isn't lame, Duke!". Ultimately,
    Black Cat used it as the inspiration for their fully-automatic shotgun.

    The range of 2680 units is based on the Assault Shotgun's range of 45m,
    increased by about 10% due to the slightly larger weapon and therefore
    longer firing track, giving a slight increase to a range of about 50m.

    This awesome weapon is nothing less than the result of Black Cat's aim
    to create an ultra-heavy-machine gun to replace the UAC Plasma Rifle.

    Firing six hundred fourty-four caliber solid metal slugs per minute, it
    can rip a Hell Knight in half in less than five seconds; powerful enough
    that it needs the same recoil-suppression system as the Atomic Cannon!

    This started life years ago as a patch for the plasma rifle made for
    use with FISTFULL.WAD as a sort-of poor man's gatling gun using sprites
    from MARINES.WAD or one of that series. I had long wanted to update this
    as a "real" gun and ESPI's Vulcan Minigun was a perfect basis for that.

    The use of slugs was ultimately inspired by the "slug gun" in RealGuns
    by Kaiser and uses a projectile flagged RIPPER so that you can kill two
    targets with one shot, just as you can with a real slug-firing gun.

    When Nolan & Johnson Inc were assimilated by the company that eventually
    became Black Cat, MI5 slapped a D-Notice on the DS-21/30, considering it
    far too dangerous to use; however, after the Demon War, British Special
    Forces recognised the need to pack a much bigger punch against the
    powerful and inhuman enemies they now faced.

    Accordingly, Black Cat were instructed to design a hypercharged plasma
    handgun and this is it.

    This is as close to a Sandman Gun as DOOM can get; it defies belief that
    nobody ever put this beautiful weapon in a game before, so here it is!

    It is widely believed that any "real guns" mod for DOOM should have some
    sort of high-power sniping rifle; to satisfy those people and because I
    always thought the Sandman Gun was extremely cool, this takes its place.

    The huge damage value is necessary because it was always intended that
    this gun should be able to kill a Baron in one shot and a Cyberdemon or
    Spider Mastermind in two. To balance that, it takes over a second to
    recharge the internal capacitors and eats up 40 charges per shot.

    A very powerful weapon, the flamethrower is really useful when you are
    outnumbered or outgunned; let's all have deep-fried demons for dinner!

    This flamethrower is a heavily modified DOOM Plasma Rifle and also uses
    ideas and graphics from various sources; in particular, sound and a bit
    of code from Bouncy's WRW flamethrower, graphics slightly modified from
    those of WW-OSH by WildWeasel, plus some edited archvile flame sounds.

Description             :

    The 7253 launches standard UAC rockets, but Black Cat's top-secret
    recoil suppression system makes possible a rocket launcher that can be
    fired from inside the shoulder without breaking the arms or collar-bone.

    Apart from the form factor and recoil suppressant, the weapon behaves
    like the standard UAC Rocket Launcher in most respects by default.

    As its name suggests, the 7253 is not just a standard rocket launcher;
    it was designed to fire tactical nuclear missiles on the battlefield;
    these are rare and also highly dangerous, so use them with caution.

    To fire a nuclear missile, you must use the cannon's built-in warhead
    upgrade mechanics; these require a conversion kit ("NuclearWarhead"),
    which upgrades a conventional rocket; once upgraded, the rocket must
    be fired before the cannon can be fired again and the kits are rare.

    A nuclear explosion does HUGE damage; at ground zero, a cyberdemon will
    be seriously injured and may even be killed outright; anything smaller
    within a radius of about 100m will almost instantly be fragged or fried;
    that includes you too, so be sure to take cover before detonation.

    There are also some interesting after-effects in the vicinity of a
    nuclear explosion... the weather is truly fouled up, electrical stuff
    doesn't always work properly and as for the environment... forget it!

    Although named for the Greek God of War, the 1337 is a poor adaptation
    to fourty-four calibre of a now-obsolete Police handgun common in the
    early 21st Century; accordingly, Black Cat have not incorporated it into
    the 72-series product line, but relegated it to use as a backup pistol.

    It is useful at close quarters and reliable despite the high firing rate
    and large calibre, but the long-distance accuracy of the weapon is low.

    Customized under licence by Black Cat at the behest of SOE Operational
    Command, the 7629 is a low-tech but high-power handgun that can blow an
    unlucky punk's head clean off; it's bloody good against cow demons too!

    Thanks to the evil Sandmen clamouring to have their gun implemented in
    Doom, the S&W 29 is no longer the "most powerful handgun in the world";
    in fact, it never was; but those movie folks talk a lot of c**p, niet?

    The .357 Magnum went down in history as one of the greatest handguns in
    the world and the .44 only added to the mythos, especially after the 29
    was immortalised by Clint Eastwood in the Dirty Harry movie series.
    
    Putting one in Doom was the holy grail of pistol mods and all the great
    weapon modders from Cory Whittle to WildWeasel have done it at some time
    or other; this one uses WildWeasel's standard revolver as a base for the
    graphics and sounds; the code is a modified 1337 backup pistol.

    When you need an insane amount of stopping power and there isn't a handy
    plasma handgun anywhere nearby, the SNR-7552 is the next best thing.

    Designed originally as a sniper rifle, the 7552 is an adaptation, though
    total redesign might be a better word, to fourty-four calibre of the SIG
    Commando carbine. Made for British Special Forces by Black Cat to meet

    from heaven or summon a pack of black cat zombies as your personal army!
    Beware, however, that Bast demands some of your vitality as penance for
    possession of this awesome power and sometimes, some heavenly Mana also!

    This vision of the weapon was inspired by the "Unholy Bible" artefact
    that appeared in the DOOM alpha and beta versions, but never made it
    into the final game. It really was such a shame that id Software did not
    see fit to use it, so here is my take on how it might have worked.

    This started life years ago as the Curse of Bast/Collar of Bastet in my
    own early mod Bombay 72. Every long-standing DOOM developer has made a
    "BFG as Black Magic Curse" hack of some sort and I was no exception :P

    There are also three other related items that comprise the book open on
    a bookstand (e.g., on/near an altar) from which you can pick the weapon
    up, leaving the empty bookstand behind; this is the Unholy Bible itself.

    This vision of the weapon was inspired by the "Evil Sceptre" artefact
    that appeared in the DOOM alpha and beta versions, but never made it
    into the final game. It really was such a shame that id Software did not
    see fit to use it, so here is my take on how it might have worked.

    The weapon logic is a "from-scratch" approximation of the Wraithverge,
    using Lost Souls as spirits because in DOOM, they seem to fit the bill!

    Dead, yet alive, this abomination requires feeding and will always steal
    s little of your vitality when you call upon it and of course, your mana
    is rather tempting too; don't be too rash with the use of this vileness.

    This started life as the WRW Necronomicon; I needed a third black magic
    weapon for this pack that wasn't a book or wand but must be a mystical
    icon and be the <something> of <word involving some sort of profanity>.

    Since we already had blasphemy and sacrilege, heresy seemed the logical
    choice; having seen the WRW weapon, I liked the idea of the Handbook of
    Heresy, but there was already a book. Then I remembered a weapon in one
    of Daniel's WADs that was obviously inspired by the SW Ripper Heart.

    By combining the two ideas, we obtain the Heart of Heresy! As it raises
    dead monsters, this seems fitting; after all, servitude to a human must
    surely be heretical, from the perspective of any self-respecting demon!

    price on his head of a cool million pounds! When out canvassing, he had
    a clipboard, which the cops duly impounded and put in the Evidence Room!

    The weapon logic is a modified DOOM fist, based on the clipboard in
    Action DooM by Scuba Steve; it's a bit like the Ninja Duel war fan.

    Unlike Scuba Steve's original Action DooM clipboard, you CAN use this
    as a weapon by swatting monsters with it, hence its inclusion in this
    pack; just don't try doing that to a CyberDemon or ArchVile :)

    this, you actually CAN; there's a reason they're called the "cow demon"!

    The weapon logic is a modified Cleric Mace; the settings were obtained
    directly from the ZDOOM source code, as they are not listed in the Wiki;
    basically, this is a heavily modified blend of the Mace and the Hammer.

    The high damage value is used because by definition, this weapon must be
    capable of taking out a "cattle demon*" in one or two hits.

    *Doggies... Puppies... Pinkies... Beholders... Cow Demons... just how
    many nicknames have been invented for them after 13 years of DOOM? :)

    What can I say; after years of James Bond, Shadow Warrior (tm) and even
    al-Quaeda, it's about time we had a portable nuclear warhead in DOOM.

    These devices upgrade a standard explosive rocket to a tactical nuclear
    missile with a low-yield of around 1KT. The outer layer of paint gets
    removed from the missile and the existing warhead is set to trigger the
    the nuke upon detotation; the package contains a conversion kit as well
    as the warhead and is loaded into the Atomic Cannon, which includes the
    necessary mechanics; the entire process takes about three seconds.

    After the conversion, the rocket cannot be reverted and must be launched
    before the weapon can be used again; so be very careful and don't waste
    these very rare items - waste a whole bunch of demons instead!

    *Actually, that effect is so far only used in the Butchery (unreleased
    WIP as at 2007-NOV-12); to use this as a dropitem in your own projects,
    subclass a monster to replace itself or create a new monster; then set
    the DropItem property of your monster to "Mana".

    The use of this as a normal pickup is deprecated but, like the shuriken,
    caltrop and grenade pickups, exists due to engine limitations.

    Because of the limited collision physics of the Doom engine, it is next
    to impossible to accurately place one map object on another in a pile;
    thus, a pile of shurikens, caltrops, hand-grenades or mana orbs fails.

    Since unlike the others, mana does not consist of discrete objects, a
    large blob thereof is considered better than a simulated pile of orbs.
