"forever". ----------------------------------- NOTES: I made WADs I have altered be the emphasis of this collection rather than original maps by me or some sort of "theme" megaWAD. I did, however, try to use the titles of the DOOM2 levels themselves as a way to suggest the "order" one experiences the flow of levels. Please note that some of the maps were intended for DM use only, and hence may seem a bit less than challenging for hardcore gamers. Here's a little play-by-play, plus my new titles for the levs: map 01 Intro: Nice little translation of Quake's "Intoduction" map, originally intended for DM use. I added the opposition, made some of the textures and lights more suitable to my tastes, and disabled all of the exits except one. 02 Q_e1m1: This was originally a DOOM1 DM only map based on the spaces that comprise Quake's first SP level, but I found it underpopulated by entities for SP use and many of the textures were just wrong .... they're not any more. 03 American'sWAD: Who can resist trying to make id's legendary in-house DOOM2 DM map into a decent SP experience? This was my first attempt at doing so, and one of the first WADs I ever modified. Kills time. 04 'NAM: Swamps, jungles, forests and other outdoor venues are always my forte, and this previously DM only map was one of the best I'd ever seen ..... see if you can fight your way to the exit from scratch sometime. Incredible map. 05 UDsewers: My only real contributions to this map was converting it to DOOM2 and adding the supershotgun. Sewer maps have a long tradition in idFPS games, and here's yet another one. If you can credit the author please email me. 06 JungleFever2: All I did with this map was convert it from DOOM to DOOM2 and add the requisite supershotgun ... like I said, I like "naturalistic" themes, and I kind of admire this author's boneheaded solution to the problem. Big level. 07 TheSpawnSQuad : This was the map that convinced me that sticking one of those monster spitting heads of John Romero into a formerly DM only map is a cool way to kill an evening. Perhaps the best laid out DM level I've ever seen. 08 D2swamp: One of the most thorough DOOM swamps ever made, though it was initially aimed at the coop play crowd. I don't play coop, so I altered the opposition's forces accordingly to give me a chance. Still verrrry intense. 09 thePits: Probably the most successful map I have made from scratch, this one loosly based on Quake2's DM5 map of the same name ..... made from memory/the spaces are all proportionally off .... heck I don't even have the game. 10 sewerBASE: The template for this level was a sadly unfinished DOOM1 DM only map that just cried out for me to do something with it. Please refer to the build txt for a rundown on just what I did - the changes were quite extensive. 11 SquonkerDome: This is the first "arena" level I ever encountered and it has stuck with me over the years. Originally oriented to coop enganements, I tried to suggest a Nazi Stadium of Death. "300 Quatloos on the newcomer." 12 deltaBASE: This was a really cool house/battleyard/warf hybrid DM level that had only one monster for SP use - the big guy in the back yard. I gave him some friends to play with and had a go at making a "boat" for the dock. Groovy. 13 HellMart2/ Peters is for People!!: I used to work in a grocery store, and even though I tend to shy away from real world urban carnage settings, I could NOT resist translating this fascinating DOOM WAD to DOOM2, and had to include it. 14 SpawnSWAMP: Another sadly unfinished WAD that suggested a lot to me when I first saw it - I was shocked to go into it with my editor and find it devoid of ANYTHING except an SP start, and had a go at "finishing" it. Cool slugfest. 15 theRefinery: I first met this map as a Quake DM level, and was overjoyed that the author included his DOOM1 DM only version of the level in the .zip archive as well. I added the H20 resevior, keys and the opposition. Quite satisfying. 16 'BODIA: A second version of the really cool "DMFOREST" map, this one made to go into a megaWAD that had new sprites for the Shotgun dudes. So I used ONLY Shotgun dudes - same cart as above, new horse. Try it from scratch. 17 Slipgate"C": You guessed it - another player written DOOM2 version of Classic Quake's E1M1, again oriented to DM use and again festooned with just the WRONG textures [sorry, Dude]. I addressed these issues, and the results now rule. 18 DM2: A truly inspiring DOOM2 take on Classic Quake's DM2 by the Kandyman that I have shamelessy ruined [again] by enabling the map for SP/COOP use as well. Still a challenge; there are almost NO health packs and quite a few Imps. 19 theCitadel: I edited this map specifically to go in this set, a wonderfully structured DM oriented map that I have blessed with a pissed off garrison of HellSpawn. I've been eyeing this one for a while - I hope it still rules as SP. 20 SwampArena: I had just read about Q3A for the first time when I set out to make this map, which was supposed to be DM only at first ..... which is kind of funny since I only use DOOM2 for SP use. Starightforward, deadsimple, and cool. 21 DarkWoody: Another Squonk approved DOOM2 map by Mr. Nall, again oriented for COOP use. Until I got my hands on it, that is. Originally modified for the WAD with the new Shotgun dudes, so you'll be fighting lots of Shotgun dudes. 22 theSEWAGE: This formerly DM only WAD was initially modified for SP use for inclusion in a megaWAD made up of sewer maps and ONLY sewer maps ..... sort of used as a "filler" level here to pad out the WAD count; "acceptible". 23 PirateWAD: Really interesting DM/COOP oriented level I found in a WADpack that now has a more manageable opposing force for SP users, and is intended to suggest a pirate adventure .... with lots of shotgun dudes. Yes, I know ... 24 RedSPAWN5a: Another map I first met as a Classic Quake DM and couldn't resist converting to SP, this being a "fresh" edit for this comp, with nukeslime for water and an additional spawn point .... both just for the hell of it :-] 25 The18thTee: God smiled and let me grow up across the street from a golf course, half of which was set high on a hill, with the last hole's tee-off being on the top and the green at the bottom. This WADedit is like a trip back home. 26 OBERsewer: Anyone familiar with the "FragTown" series of Quake and Quake2 maps has seen this author's work before, and I look upon my edit of this DOOM2 DM map of his as being an homage to his brilliance. Thanx, Bruce!! 27 SquonkerBog: I actually started making Classic Quake levels long before I made my first DOOM WAD; this is an attempt at translating one of them to DOOM2 ...... the end result was somewhat disappointing to me. Nice boat, though. 28 theIsthmus: Here is a reverse of the above dillema - the DOOM2 version of this Classic Quake map of mine turned out "better" than the original, in some ways. I guess I just naturally think in DOOM2 terms when I design maps :-] 29 SwampRooms: My first ever DOOM2 WAD, really an elaboration on my tutorial map with HellMaker, but still an outrageously effective FFA type slugfest. Until you run out of things to kill, that is. Quite enjoyable as a DM as well. 30 STYXhenge: Edited specifically for inclusion in this compilation and serving well as DOOM2's last level, I have done my best to supply ample health and ammo to last you long enough to generate a body count - the rest is up to you. 31 WolfenSwamp: This is actually an SS-enhanced verso of "SwampArena", re edited for inclusion in a 32 level "WolfenSquonk" WAD I made, and serves the role of a substitute for the traditional DOOM2 Wolfen map. Very tough. 32- DM1b/PlaceOf2Squonks: I was frustrated that this excellent DOOM2 translation of Classic Quake's DM1 level was entirely devoid of monster entities. I hope I didn't "ruin" it; supposed to suggest a sewer now, with proper infestation. ------------------------------------------------------------ THANX TO: Paul Davidson for HellMaker, the folks behind the incredible WADenizer, Doug "Opulebt" Merrill for playtesting and encouragement, P1nball for all sorts of Mac-->PC file sharing help, and idSoftware for Wolf3d-Quake3A. I was thinking about paintball when I made this. Everything about me is boring so I'll save you the time from reading it and just not type any of that crap. Description : This is a DEATHMATCH level. There are *NO* monsters so if your expecting to play this alone you'll get bored. This is an mostly an open area playing area. It includes 1 fort and 1 bunker. This is best played with two teams of two. Just remember who your teams are. This level has stuff like a snipers alley. This WAD is best played around scenarios i.e. attack the base/defend the base. If your attacking the bunker you have the opertunity to kill the power, which shuts the lights off. Get the light amps. and attack at total darkness. I tried to give each team there own weapon to start with- fort-P.G.; bunker-M.L I also tried to give each team security around their base. Each side has their advantages and dis- advantages. On Hill Fun it is just one big long stairway and a bunch of hills. I made this one for fun. COOPERATIVE ENGAGEMENT: apparently DEATHMATCH: certainly DIFFICULTY SETTINGS: no NEW TEXTURES: no NEW MUSIC: no NEW DEMO: no NEW ANYTHING: no ---------------------------------------------- BASE: idMAP01!.WAD by American McGhee, edited by Frank Fejes* EDITOR USED: HELLMAKER 1.2b WORK DURATION: "an evening plus" KNOWN BUGS: notta ---------------------------------------------- NOTES: This is another little "Happy B'day DOOM!" WAD from the Squonk and, well, I guess I pulled out all the stops on this one and ripped off the Biggest of the BigShots in my continuing efforts to "modify" pre-existing maps to suit my needs better; I actually first fell in love with this level as a Quake rewrite of the map (visit my website for more DOOM WADs converted to Quake!!), and then came accross the original DOOM2 WAD I altered while researching maps to post on my pages. It is perhaps the best DOOM2 DM level I had ever seen (that didn't come with the original game package), but I always wanted to see this map with monsters in it since I only play DOOM2 as SP (DeathMatches are for Quake). Well I was delighted to see the .txt that went with it more or less invite folks to do what they would to the map, so I fired up my HELLMAKER, loaded the "idMAP01!.WAD" in and made a couple of changes .... The map is still the same - the architecture has not been altered in any way (except I made the "posts" around the fountain higher and one of the ithsmus' a bit wider; no big deal), but many of the textures have been replaced and the lighting design is a little different. I also turned one room into a little "Hitler Bunker" [heh heh] to reflect my undying reverance for Wolfenstein and include it in the B'day Killing Spree as well. The monsters were arranged in what I feel is a logical order of engagement IF you play the map in the sequence I have envisioned: I tried to place a keyed door in a clutch hallway to force one to play the level my way and it didn't work, but you'll figure out whom to face first after a couple of deaths from stupidly running the wrong way. USE YOUR HEAD!! Now novice DOOM players will find this map quite difficult as an SP experience, but with the employment of TACTICS, strict conservation of your health powerups (remember where they are!!) and a willingness to die once or twice you can beat this level handily. All of the DM and COOP starts have also been retained, though some of them are in different places, and all weapons except the BFG are present in one form or another .... there is a functioning exit, and you will need the blue key to get at it. Enjoy!! THANX TO: idSoftware for DOOM and Quake, whomever played the parts in the chain that led to me being able to access the original WAD I altered, American McGhee for being cool and letting people mess with his map, those responsible for HELLMAKER, and Ricardo Sheets for bringing me my supper tonight. It isn't anymore. The only changes I made to the map were some lighting tweaks to make it more "gloomy" and the item/entity placement. Your oponents in this map will be shotgun Sgts, and once again, be careful/move slowly/keep your eyes open: there are only 2 health packs and 1 berserker box in this map, and no additional armor after the start. You might also want to try to find the rocket launcher position you were trying to nail when you were shot down - the enemy has ammo for it stashed all over the place and it just might come in handy ... just make sure you don't blow yourself by hitting a tree. Not really a "search and destroy", more a "make it out alive if you can" type of mission; I can make it out in about 10 minutes. Enjoy!! *This is a special version of this WAD made exclusively for addition in a 32 level megawad called "theWar!" I am working on that uses the venerable "Marine1" partial TC as a base, which changes the Sgt. sprites into these creepy goonish army dudes ...... If you created the sound...I give credit to you. Description: This level was intended to be a house that is on the Delta..hint hint, the name. After a while I decided to update some of it's surroundings for Deathmatch play! After many hours, I have finally come up with this version of Delta.wad! It's rather primative in design but it sure as hell is fun! Bugs: None! Report any physical bugs if you see any. Thanx. Editors used: DCK 3.61 Shareware, Wintex 4.3 shareware. Build time: About 1 year for a good result. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hints: Now, this section is for those of you who READ the .txt files instead of skipping into the game. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The exit is highly hidden. This is for those players who are poor sports and wish to bail out when gettin' a whippin'! The exit is located on the South West pilling for the dock. It's in the center of the pole. To reach it you must run from the door of the house and onto the pole while hitting the spacebar (or whatever you have it configed to.) to exit the level. The timing must be correct to succesfully exit. This can be done at any time. If you use the cheat code to view all areas (IDDT or IDBEHOLDA) you will see the exit line in the center of the pillar/pole. It is facing the levee, that's why ya have to run! 2. This level is BEST played with TURBO 150-200%!(suggested 200%) Use a program like DM.EXE or other front end to allow ease of use and easy turbo adding utility. 3. There is one (1) BFG in this level! It's at the south/west end of the levee, which is a TRAP. I meant it to be like that because I'm not a BFG fan myself and I HATED it in this level! Too unfair, do if you want it, you may get a few Frags off it, but you'll have to DIE or commit Suicide to get out. Suicide requires a Rocket Launcher. 4. Watch out for the TRAPS! Behind each levee, (opposite the water) there are two areas (one on each side) that trap you. The only way out is either suicide or let your partner do you in. There are rocket launchers provided in one of them if you decide to chicken out. One of these traps contain a BFG...to tease your buddy with...hehehe. 5. In DooM, with a rocket launcher, it doesn't matter how high or low you are (height wise) above you opponent(s), you can still hit them with the blast even if the rocket appears to hit the wall 50ft. above them! For instance, if your buddy is in a trap waiting for you to show, then I suggest you get onto a levee and use rockets against one of the side walls, and hope your opponent(s) get hit! Now, this is good because by the time your opponent(s) figure out where you are, they'll be either REALLY low on health, or DEAD! Hint: The traps...now you know how to do your opponent in if they try to get you with the BFG. So if you're traped... STAY AWAY FROM THE WALLS! ============================================================================= Visit my DooM site at http://www.geocites.com/TimesSquare/Alley/4095/index.html or Email me at: [email protected] if you have any questions or comments. Description : A really cool Doom II WAD where you are in a small building on an island in the middle of a swamp and you must defend your island from an army of demons with very limited supplies. There are a few other islands in the swamp with items and ammo, but leaving the main island for more then a few seconds is not recommended due to the huge numbers of demons outside in the swamp. This level has no difficulty settings, but is extremely hard, with a lot of Pain Elementals, Mancubuses, Hell Knights, imps, etc. There are only a few human enemies in the swamp. If you want to win, make a stand in the building and shoot out the windows, let the demons fight it out, then after a good number of them are dead, make a break across the swamp to one of other islands to replenish your supply. To actually complete the WAD, you have to go deep into the swamp and find another house with a telporter in it, then telport to the exit. Description ----------- A small deathmatch arena. This level is loosely based on one of my early DOOM levels. I have included the original DOOM level. Just delete it if you don't want it. It's not very big. There are 4 deathmatch starts on this level, and I don't reccomend playing with more than 4 players. I have not played any actual deathmatches on this level but I have tested it with Reaper Bot 0.81 and it's quite good. There should be a reasonable amount of action even with 2 players. That's about all there is to say. Go play it! Known bugs ---------- * Grey stuff between the slime and the water in the dark room (a result of running vis - I still ran vis because of the speed improvement) * The wind tunnel is a bit unpredictable. It's better than my last attempt and it works about 90% of the time, but occasionally you don't get shot up far enough to hit the second push-brush, or you get stuck in the tunnel. Note that Reaper Bots always get stuck in the tunnel. Copyright --------- You can make your own levels based on this one, but please mention that I made the original. Other than that, do what you like with it. I don't care. Enjoy, if that's possible. So I altered it [with his apparent consent - see below+] into something that I feel is a bit more ..... well, thorough. Sort of a combination of military base and slime pit/sewer tunnel: the idea is that you first fight your way into the control complex, gain access to the sewers, exterminate all infesting life forms, then try to exit. Surprises await. I intentionally made the opposition seem like less of a challenge than it really is at first - you seriously may wish to consider saving your goodie balls until you really need them; just because something's there doesn't necessarily mean you should use it right away [think Quake2]. But the bottom line is the same as my other "spawn" levels: last as long as you can, then go back down, put Mr. Daikatana-Head out of his misery and you're finished. Have .... fun?? THANX TO: the original WAD author for not caring what people did with his work [gotta love artists like that]; our horrible Troll-like roommate for promising to move the fuck out at the end of the month; Doug "Opulent" Merril for help, playtesting and inspiration; Luca Buvoli for making me take this stuff seriously as ART; and idSoftware for Commander Keen's presence in this map. (And by the way I offset every MF texture in this damn .wad, including the ceiling texture. So, needless to say it looks fairly pleasing to the eye!) * Copyright / Permissions * I don't give a flying fuck! + * Where to get this WAD * Where you got this .txt file! =========================================================================== ADDITIONAL NOTE: I was quite amused to "open" this level with my WAD editor and find that Mr. Walker had arranged about a hundred health vials down in the slime tunnel into a pattern that, while appearing innocuous enough in the game standing in front of them, when looking at the map through a map editor read quite clearly "GO TO HELL!" [w/o the quotes]. While I found it to be a truly ingenious, almost postmodernist use of materials, I eliminated them because they really did nothing to contribute to the game: you couldn't see them from overhead and view them as a collective whole except in maybe a map cheat mode [I didn't try it]. So I eliminated the whole shebang and added the survival suit alcoves instead. In other words, don't go looking for his "sewer of health" - come down instead and die in our sewer of death. NEW TEXTURES: no NEW MUSIC: no NEW DEMO: no NEW ANYTHING: no ----------------------------------------------- BASE: new level from scratch EDITOR USED: HellMaker 1.2b BUILD TIME: nope KNOWN BUGS: huh .... ----------------------------------------------- NOTES: This map now rules after the addition of "walls" or visible plane limitation partitions into the center of the bog so that you are not looking accross more than 1/2 of the total expanse of space at any one time - this has resulted in an elimination of visiplane crashes, increased frame rates and a sort of "labyrinthian" feel to the swamp, even though it wasn't planned like that. Very fun now, where before it was just intense. Please email me your thoughts. EMAIL: [email protected] URL: http://home.earthlink.net/~snyland DESCRIPTION:This is a "cleaned up" version my first ever DOOM level - sort of an elaboration of my tutorial map with HELLMAKER, a 2-roomer with lots of trees, foliage, slime and water textures set under a "sky"....intended to resemble a swamp with a UAC door in the middle of it. There is an exit.... THANKS TO: id for DOOM and Quake, the guys at Quakeintosh, those responsible for HELLMAKER*, Opulent and Co. for DM playetesting, and Ricardo Sheets for all of the Smut. -------------------------------------------------------- GAME: DOOM2/Final DOOM (tested on both) MAP: 03 SINGLE PLAYER: yes CO-OPERATIVE: yes - 4 starts added DEATHMATCH: yes - 3 starts in each room for a total of 6 DIFFICULTY SETTINGS: I don't think so (you oughtta be used to dying by now) NEW TEXTURES: no NEW DEMO: no NEW MUSIC: no ------------------------------------------------------- BASE: new level from scratch EDITOR USED: HELLMAKER 1.2 (b2) for the Mac* BUILD TIME: about 6 hours over 2 days KNOWN BUGS: none* ------------------------------------------------------ NOTES: This is my first DOOM level, made after playing DOOM2 for 3 years and Quake for a year - I have also made levels for Quake, and run a website devoted to Quake levels with lots of water and slime called The AquaQuake Vault....hence the structure of this WAD. There are only Imps, Nazis, Mancubi and Arachnas in this map, and the only weapons included were limited to supershotgun, rocket launcher and plasma rifle.....actually, there is also 1 chaingun dude, so if you kill him you can score that too, but he's guarding the exit and you won't see him in DeathMatch so..... Anyway, I always prefer "outdoor", naturalistic combat settings for both DOOM and Quake so decided to stick with those traditions for my first DOOM level and make a map that at least I'LL enjoy playing: sorry if the expansive spaces (and bundles of trees) mess with your frame rates. No difficulty settings used but still pretty tough - I've "cleared it" with 100% kills in under 6 minutes, yet still die a lot even though I know where everything is. My best advice as to tactics are to KEEP YOUR ASS MOVING, take out the lesser opponents first and then zero in on the big guys - I only meant to add 2 Mancubi and one more turned up via a bug in Hellmaker*, but I kept him in just to piss you off. There are NO secrets. This map was DM playtested by Opulent and Co. to great satisfaction, and hence comes highly recommended for either mode. ENJOY!!! ADDENDUM 12/15: I have gone back into this map and played a little Paul Bunyan and carved out like 30 trees at least, so now it runs a lot smoother ... I also re-arranged some of the monsters, made the door require a key and added a couple of goodies plus co-op starts .... other than that this is more or less the same. This level now serves as Map03 in a string of WADs I am slapping together. ------------------------------------------------------- LEGAL NOTICES: Authors would be ill-advised to use this as a base for other levels, but if you can't come up with anything better on your own feel welcomed to do so.....distribute this level freely, but you must include the textfile.....please do not put this WAD on a CD for commercial release. That would displease me. ------------------------------------------------------- SQ 121598 The AquaQuake Vault - http://home.earthlink.net/~snyland/quake.html March 12, 1999 ............................. BASE: new level from scratch BUILD TIME: "all night" NOTES: I keep having trouble finishing my Quake version of this map due to compile problems and I really wanted to play it [and fiddle with lights and consider the placement of monster entities] so I made this ... the initial inspiration for the Quake "Isthmus" was Quake2 DM7/The Slimy Place, but it sort of took on a life of its own and everyone kept telling me how much like a DOOM level it was .... so I made it into one. This level will serve as Map 11 in the infamous Squonker.WAD ...... ahhight? THANX TO: Opulent and Borys the Polish Quake Freak for keeping my interest in DOOM burning, Paul Davidson for HellMaker, everybody at MQI for tolerating my bullshit, Ricardo Sheets for letting me play Quake2 on his PC, and idSoftware for , well, EVERYTHING. I had no map to work from. But it is by far my favorite of the id DM levels and have played it a lot. I believe the original map was by Tim Wilitis, and all accolades to him for the original spacial designs. Unfortunately, my spaces more than not ended up too big [especially in the "pit" rooms and the outer courtyard], but I think that the feel of the original map is still there even though I had to link many of the areas with teleporters due to the peculiarities of DOOM2's engine. Hardcore players may wish to select "respawn" mode so that the battle keeps raging: I put in a secret weapons stash room for just such purposes. All weapons present and accounted for. Please email me with your comments.
